Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics (GIC) is the leading informatics organization of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. It was founded in 1957 as a Computational Center of the Academy of Science of Ukraine on the base of the computer lab which had developed the 1st Soviet computer in 1950. It was among the very first computers in the World.

Founder and the first director of GIC academician Victor Glushkov (1923-1983) is world-wide recognized as a pioneer of the computer era (IEEE Computer Pioneer Award for digital automation of computer architecture).

GIC has major experience in development of the legal and technological components of the information society policy in Ukraine. Besides, GIC is involved in the preparation of materials for high level international collaboration in the information society area.

Ivan Sergienko (b. 1936) - Director of GIC, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of sciences, professor, laureate of many national awards.

He works at GIC since 1959.

Specialist in computer science, computational mathematics, optimization theory, system analysis and mathematical modeling, mathematical software of computers.

Author of over 600 scientific publications including 30 monographs, scientific adviser of 18 doctors of sciences and 58 PhDs.

Yuriy Krivonos (b. 1939) - Deputy Director of GIC, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Sciences, Head of department 115 at GIC.

He works at GIC since 1967, since 1996 as a Deputy Director.

Krivonos is a researcher in mathematical modeling and computer information technology. His scientific interests: developing of original methods of identification of mathematical models of wave and rapid physical and technological processes, developing of design methods and technological tools for distributed information technologies for integrated automation of geographically distributed objects.

Alexander Palagin (b. 1939) - Deputy director of GIC, Doctor of Sciences, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, head of department 205 at GIC.

He works at GIC since 1960.

His activities include the development of scientific and methodological foundations of intelligent information systems of information and cognitive support of research, development of knowledge-oriented computer systems and ontological engineering, development of intelligent networks and means of information services, computer systems with virtual (reconfigurable) architecture, technology of system integration in the problems of research design.

He published more than 340 scientific publications, including 9 monographs and more than 85 inventions. Scientific adviser of 20 PhDs and 6 doctors of sciences.

Vasily Deineka (b. 1949) - Ukrainian scientist in the field of cybernetics, Doctor of Sciences, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, laureate of many national awards, head of department 135 at GIC.

He works at GIC since 1977.

His research interests: developing the theoretical foundations of systems analysis of multicomponent distributed systems, including: the construction of mathematical models of processes of different nature of multicomponent environment as new classes of problems with discontinuous solutions, determine their accuracy, the construction of computational algorithms of high order of accuracy of numerical solution, research of optimal control of states of multicomponent distributed systems, developing of effective means of identifying the parameters of such systems based on gradient methods solution of appropriate inverse problems, creating of effective automated systems for solving practical problems using the PC.

He published over 310 scientific publications, 9 monographs, scientific adviser of 10 PhDs.

Igor Voitovich  (b. 1932) – head of department 220 at GIC, Doctor of Sciences, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

He works at GIC since 1959, since 1981 as a head of the department.

Scientific interests: new information technologies based on measurements of electrical, magnetic and optical signals and their spatio-temporal analysis; principles and technical means of contactless diagnostics in medicine, biology, ecology, food production and technology; research of components, devices and systems based on superconductivity, optoelectronics, nanoelectronics, molecular electronics; thin-film technology for sensors and devices.

He published 290 scientific publications, including 2 monographs, has 70 patents for inventions. Scientific adviser of 15 PhDs and 4 doctors of sciences.

Igor Kovalenko (b. 1935) - Ukrainian mathematician, Doctor of Sciences, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, laureate of many national awards.

Since 1971 he works as a Head of the Department 125 at GIC.

Scientific interests: queuing theory, reliability theory, modeling of complex systems, applied probabilistic combinatorics, coding theory, cryptography and stochastic geometry.

Author of over 200 scientific publications including 25 monographs, scientific adviser of over 30 PhDs.

Alexander Letychevskyy (b. 1935) - Ukrainian Cybernetics, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of sciences, professor, head of department 100 at GIC.

He works at GIC since 1957, since 1981 as a head of department of recursive computers, since 2009 as a head of department of digital machines.

Scientific interests: automat-algebraic methods in programming, theory of designing of computer systems, parallel computing, theory of interaction of agents and environments, insertion modeling, algebraic programming and computer algebra, artificial intelligence.

Author of over 200 scientific publications including 10 monographs. Scientific adviser of 30 PhDs and 10 doctors of sciences.

Yuri Ermoliev (b. 1936) - Ukrainian mathematician and cybernetics, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Sciences, professor, laureate of many national awards.

He is a Head of the Department of Mathematical Methods of Operations Research at GIC since 1972.

Scientific interests: modeling of decision-making processes in the presence of risks and uncertainties, stochastic and dynamic systems optimization, optimization on networks, nonlinear dynamics, study of path-dependent adaptation processes, pollution control problems, energy and agriculture modeling, reliability theory, and optimization of discontinuous systems, in particular, discrete event systems optimization.

Author of over 200 scientific publications and 8 monographs. Scientific adviser of 50 PhDs and 8 doctors of sciences.
